The Pueo project at the 54th annual Hawaii State Farm Fair

July 17, 2017

The Pueo project participated at the 2017 Hawai‘i State Farm Fair, that took place just this weekend (July 15-16) at Kualoa Ranch in Ka‘a‘awa. We were located at the Education Pavilion, representing the University of Hawaii / CTAHR / NREM department.

We had the great chance to share our passion about the Pueo and the citizen science project, explain the differences between our native and endangered Pueo and the introduced Barn owl, and the conservation threats that this species has to face. Also, quite many children enjoyed coloring some Pueo!

We specially would like to acknowledge Aline LaForge, for her collaboration and donations to the Pueo project.. She is the author of the book "Hooked by the Stars". If you have the chance go and read it, nothing better than increasing your love for Pueo than seeing through their eyes (spoilers alert).

Also we would like to thank Luis Verdesoto (Lindblad Expeditions / National Geographic) for his help and time during the fair.
